A baby boomer I was the only child born of German parents in Calcutta, India and grew up in Sydney Australia. I can remember not having any conception of age before about 7. Age then became very important. "How old are you?" would be answered by, "I'm 8 and 3/4" or whatever. If you were 13, 16 seemed impossibly grown up and mature. As the years went by age became less and less important. Now that I'm in my 60's I look at policemen, shop assistants and news readers and marvel at their youth. Does that mean I'm old?
This blog is a reminiscence of my life and experiences as well as my current thoughts on things in general.
I am from generation Y and I have thoroughly enjoyed reading every one of your posts. Many thanks.
ReplyDeleteThank you 'Unknown' I'm glad you like my posts. I am recording family history as well as a few musings, mainly so the past doesn't get lost. Having a few readers apart from my immediate family is quite thrilling!
DeleteHello, my dad was Ken Butler and worked at Ralfs & Hermsdorf for years. I think probably it was from about 1960 until about 1975. He was a photolithographer and platemaker and lithographic camera operator and talked about the rooms you mentioned and the bosses. I remember him saying he was in the darkroom especially. Sadly he passed in 2015. I enjoyed reading your blog and only put Ralfs and Hermsdorf name in to see what would come up and am really happy to hear your musings. Dad drove a bright red messerschmitt car to work each day to St Leonards. That was unforgettable.
